Exosomes

Everything you need to know about exosomes

Before taking the plunge with any aesthetic treatment, it’s absolutely vital that you do your homework. That said, when it comes to some of the more advanced treatments, it can sometimes feel like you need a science degree just to get to grips with all the complex terminology and confusing jargon.

With that in mind, here’s a simple crash course in one of the most exciting new developments to hit the world of aesthetics – exosomes.

What are exosomes?

In simple terms, exosomes are like messenger molecules, secreted by your cells to communicate with other cells. They contain a mix of genetic material, lipids, proteins, amino acids, peptides and growth factors which promote cell turnover. Cell turnover is essential for skin rejuvenation. As you age, your skin cell turnover rate decreases. This means it takes longer for your body to replace dead skin cells with healthy new ones. This process usually starts to slow down from age 30 onwards, which is when most people start to notice those first few fine lines and wrinkles. The most effective anti-ageing treatments are the ones that accelerate the speed of this skin cell turnover.

Backed by science

Exosomes have been tried and tested in countless medical studies and have been shown to be highly effective in healing wounds and decreasing inflammation. They are therefore ideal for treating a range of skin concerns including:

- Lines and wrinkles

- Sagging skin

- Scars

- Pigmentation

- Uneven skin texture

- Dull skin

Increasing the effectiveness of exosomes

Exosomes are most effective when they are able to penetrate deep within the skin. For this reason, here at Age Eternal we combine exosomes with micro-needling to unlock their full potential. Micro-needling is a procedure that involves pricking the skin with a series of fine, sterilized needles to create hundreds of tiny channels in the skin. The exosomes are then applied topically as a serum and massaged deep into the skin to get to work, boosting collagen and elastin production, and leaving your skin looking and feeling smoother, brighter and younger.

What to expect

Some redness should be expected after the treatment, but this usually subsides within a day and sometimes within just a few hours, depending on the individual. We recommend that you do not wear make-up for the first 24 hours, and we strongly advise you wear SPF and avoid sun exposure for a few days following your treatment as your skin will be extra sensitive.

As for the results – you should start to see noticeable improvements within 2-6 weeks. To maximise your results, we recommend a course of at least 3 treatments. Typical results will last up to around 6 months, after which time you can book in for a booster treatment to maintain your results.

Age Eternal founder Brogan Watson on exosomes;

“The regenerative benefits of exosomes are clear. By accelerating skin cell turnover, we can transform dull, sagging, ageing skin into bright, tight and youthful skin. There’s a lot to get excited about with exosomes!”

POLYNUCLEOTIDES

POLYNUCLEOTIDES

Polynucleotides – your new weapon in the fight against ageing skin

At Age Eternal, we’re not swayed by fads, trends or beauty buzzwords. As medical aestheticians, we continually monitor the latest industry developments and research the most advanced treatments on the market so that we can offer you effective science-backed services that achieve real results. With that in mind, we’re delving into the world of polynucleotides – the bio-stimulators that are currently taking the beauty world by storm. Are they just a craze, or will polynucleotide treatments prove to be a genuine game-changer in the fight against ageing skin?

Read on to find out...

What are polynucleotides?

Derived from fish DNA, polynucleotides have been proven to rejuvenate, regenerate and revitalise the skin on a deep, cellular level. They do so by:

- Stimulating fibroblast production

- Promoting tissue repair

- Enhancing cell turnover

- Increasing elasticity

- Encouraging hyaluronic acid production

- Stimulating collagen production

- Soothing inflammation

- Reducing skin pigmentation

What skin concerns can polynucleotides help with?

Polynucleotides can be used to help with a number of skin concerns

including: Lines and wrinkles caused by ageing, Sagging skin, Acne scarring, Rosacea, Melasma, Under eye concerns, Dullness, Dryness, Inflamed Skin and hyperpigmentation

Which polynucleotides treatment is right for me?

Polynucleotides can be injected into the skin, or they can be applied to the surface of the skin in the form of a serum. In the case of the latter, we recommend combining it with a micro-needling treatment to ensure the polynucleotides can get to work deep within the layers of the skin. Micro-needling, also sometimes referred to as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure that involves pricking the skin with a series of tiny, sterilized needles. By creating small injuries, micro-needling encourages your skin to create more collagen and elastin – two proteins that are essential for skin health. As we age, we naturally produce less of these proteins, but by stimulating collagen and elastin production and encouraging the skin to repair itself, the result is a more youthful, natural look.

At Age Eternal, we can take things one step further by adding radiofrequency (RF) to the treatment. This means we can release radiofrequency waves into the channels created by the micro-needles to create further, controlled injury to the skin, therefore leading to faster, better and longer-lasting results. No more thin, crepey old skin – RF micro-needling with polynucleotides encourages your skin to bounce back thicker and smoother.

What to expect before, during and after the treatment

Before commencing any treatment, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire to confirm your medical history and assess your suitability. The RF micro-needling with polynucleotides treatment at Age Eternal is not suitable for anyone with active acne, for example. When you’re happy to proceed, we will begin by thoroughly cleansing your skin, then we will apply a topical anaesthetic to the treatment area if requested. The RF micro-needling with polynucleotides treatment will take around 20-30 minutes to complete, depending on the area to be treated. We will then provide you with expert aftercare advice to ensure you get the very best results.

You may experience some redness – this can last between a few hours to a day, depending on the individual. We recommend that you do not wear make-up for the first 24 hours. Wear SPF and avoid sun exposure for a few days following your treatment.

How soon will I see results?

We recommend a course of at least three treatments to ensure optimum results. You should start to notice subtle improvements after around 4 weeks, however the bio-remodelling effect of the polynucleotides will continue to work at a cellular level and the real results will be visible from around 3 months onwards.

Polynucleotides – a beauty trend with real staying power

Age Eternal founder Brogan Watson on RF micro-needling with polynucleotides;

“Having tried and tested countless treatments throughout my professional career in medical aesthetics, I’m always wary of any new treatment being hailed as the next big thing. But having done extensive research, I am confident that RF micro-needling with polynucleotides is a genuine gamechanger. By encouraging the skin’s healing process, the results look beautifully natural, and because the treatment works at such a deep, cellular level, the results are long-lasting. I’ve had patients whose confidence had taken a hit because of their lines, wrinkles and ageing skin, but this treatment has completely transformed the way they look and feel for the better.”
